Where on Eartha
Often considered a cultural stepping stone between the continents of Europe and Africa, the city of Tunis, capital of the North African country of Tunisia, was the location denoted by the pushpin in April’s Where on Eartha challenge. The modern city of Tunis incorporates the ruins of Carthage, home to Hannibal who famously embarked on an elephant-assisted invasion of the Roman Republic during the Punic Wars.
Nancy Hultquist, Emeritus Professor of Geography at Central Washington University was the first randomly selected respondent to correctly identify Tunis in the satellite image. Nancy will shortly be receiving a copy of XMap 7 complete with an Earthmate® LT-40 USB GPS receiver.
An interesting patchwork of fields appears to surround the capital city in this month’s Where on Eartha challenge. If you think you know the name of the city and its county, write them in an email addressed to contest@delorme.com. Entries must be received by June 13, 2010 to be eligible for the XMap drawing.
Good luck!
