Nation’s Largest Electricity Generator Picks DeLorme To Provide GIS, GPS Tools

YARMOUTH, Maine — The nation's largest electricity generator has selected DeLorme, a leader in cartographic technology, to supply GIS software, street-level base map data, and GPS hardware for their field operatives.
American Electric Power (AEP), based in Columbus, OH, selected DeLorme for of its XMap® GIS software, which combines exceptional affordability, ease-of-use, and full interoperability. AEP users will be relying on XMap for its data visualization capability, navigational tools, and access to aerial and satellite imagery. DeLorme is also providing its proprietary Earthmate® GPS hardware for tracking and data collection.
American Electric Power owns in excess of 36,000 megawatts of generating capacity nationwide, more than any other utility. Over five million customers are linked to AEP's 11-state electricity transmission and distribution grid.
Long renowned among consumers for its exceptionally detailed street-level data, DeLorme is also in the GIS forefront. An increasing number of utilities, surveying and engineering firms, realtors, first responders, and public agencies are relying on the XMap platform. In addition, the company’s Earthmate® and Blue Logger™ devices provide highly accurate, economical, and versatile GPS solutions for businesses, government agencies, and private individuals.
DeLorme has also entered a similar agreement with another utility that has nationwide holdings, but the companies have agreed not to release specific details.
