YARMOUTH, Maine — Serious runners, road and mountain bikers, climbers, and other high performance athletes who rely on GPS wrist computers can now get an extra training edge, using Topo USA 7.0 mapping software from DeLorme.
“When you return from a workout you can open up Topo USA 7.0, import the performance data logged by your wrist computer, and display it against a detailed terrain elevation profile,” explained Caleb Mason, Director of Marketing at DeLorme.
“You’ll see exactly how your heart rate, speed, and cadence results vary along with the terrain,” continued Mason.
“That, in turn, enables you to more precisely refine your preparation and training strategies, and improve overall performance.”
A Wide Array of GPS Features
Wrist computer support is just one of the exceptionally useful GPS capabilities available with Topo USA 7.0. Users can also import collected GPS tracks as routable roads or trails, which is ideal for managing off-road training. In addition, photo geo-tagging pinpoints the precise locations where digital photos were taken, based on a GPS track log and the digital photo’s time stamp. Topo USA 7.0 supports GPS wrist computers from GARMIN, Suunto, and Timex.
It also enables the easy exchange of GPS waypoints, routes, and tracks with NMEA-compliant handheld receivers, including the DeLorme Earthmate® GPS PN-20 and popular models from GARMIN, Magellan, Lowrance/Eagle, Brunton, Trimble, and others.
The Perfect Mapping Solution for Backcountry Training
Over and above its GPS features, Topo USA 7.0 delivers a broad selection of capabilities that are ideal for planning backcountry runs, climbing adventures, and mountain or road biking trips.
Users can see the land take shape with dynamic 3-D, including realistic flyovers. With 360-degree rotation and pitch adjustment, users can approach their destination from any compass point, and observe the terrain from perpendicular to near ground-level perspectives.
Topo USA 7.0 also allows users to create routes automatically over both roads and trails so it’s easy to create the perfect training itinerary.
Up-to-Date Road Detail, Places of Interest, and More
Along with its updated highway, street, back road, and trail detail, Topo USA 7.0 also includes over 4 million places of interest—restaurants, lodgings, attractions, and businesses of all kinds.
In addition, users can access and view four different types of aerial imagery, as well as USGS 1:24,000 (7.5-min.) quad maps and NOAA nautical charts. Each of these map, chart, and imagery types can also be displayed on the Earthmate GPS PN-20.
Topo USA 7.0 is for use on PCs running Microsoft Windows Vista, XP, or 2000 operating systems. It is available in quality electronics and sporting goods stores nationwide. It can also be purchased from many online retailers, or direct from DeLorme; go to www.delorme.com, or call 800-561-5105.
